Saighton RR LVRC

Came 2nd today in complicated sprint. We caught the C & D race and a car coming the other way with 350m to go.. it didnt' affect the top 10 as if you weren't there by then you weren't going to be but it might have affected the order of the top 10 with some serious changes of direction and breathing in required. Lad from epic cycles got an impressive jump up my inside I went after him and held the 5m gap but couldn't close it but we both finished well clear of 3rd place so that's pleasing.

This was my 1st race for 3 weeks didn't have good legs really so just attacked loads 1st 3 laps of 7 but couldn't get away then on lap 4,5,6, a group of about 6 were away but never got out of sight thanks to the work of "Juan Antonia Noons" and Mr Dickens being involved in the chase. Paul attcked with about 4Km to go had small group of 5 with him, bunch sat up I jumped across on my own Paul attcked his group so he was away I sat on the 4 and waited, but with 1.5km to go bunch caught us... pace went up and Paul was swamped with 500m to go I was in 4th place when we came across the other race / car as mentioned and spirnted to 2nd, Ian finished in the main bunch.

Good description by Richard of the race, great work by Juan and Nick chasing down the bunch, I'd guess they were riding pretty hard for a good 10-15 miles in order to close the gap.

Like Richard said I decided to go for a long one having done nothing much other than hide in the bunch for the majority of the race. Left it a bit too late really as I should have attacked with 5-6 miles to go coming out of the tight turn at the bottom end of the circuit as we turned into the headwind, only problem was someone else attacked just as I was about to and that really strung out the field, I didn't fancy trying to ride off the front of the group at 25mph into a headwind. Getting soft in my old age.

Left it quite late, two lads attacked and I followed a rider from Powys over to them, the bunch just sat and watched as we rode away, then going into the last sharp right turn before the gallop for home with about 3 miles to go I decided to press on going over a little rise in the road, I didn't see Richard making the bridge over from the main group so I just put my head down and went for the line, I'd guess this was with about 2.5-3 miles to go, go a pretty good gap and I was holding minimum of 28mph but I got caught by the chasing bunch shortly before the line. Decided to sit up and just watch everyone go by, I'd made my do or die effort and for this race it'd failed. Such is life.

All around another good day for the club, Juan doing loads of work with Nick, me launching a suicide attack at the end and Richard playing it cool for the sprint.
